Meppel Tower
After Meppel became ecclesiastically independent in 1422, construction of the Grote or Mariakerk began. The 45 meter high tower is still the proud center of Meppel. The characteristic tower used to be a great attraction for traders and craftsmen. They moved from surrounding areas to Meppel to live and work, preferably centrally, near the Meppeler Tower. The market is held here every Thursday and you regularly have the opportunity to climb the 147 steps and enjoy a fantastic view.
Printing Museum
The Printing Museum shows the history of Meppel as a printing city. It is located in three monumental warehouses in the beautiful city center. The museum has a broad design. It starts with the first forms of communication: signs of prehistoric people and shows the development of writing until machine typesetting in the 1950s. Everything that has been important to printing over the centuries can be seen here. There are regular demonstrations of hand-setting, printing, paper making and bookbinding. There is also plenty to do for children.
Wilhelmina Park
Nature, art and history come together in the Wilhelmina Park. The design of the park, which was constructed between 1915 and 1922, was by the famous landscape architect Leonard Springer. It is fantastic to walk here along the Reest river, the deer park, the park pond with its fountain and the Rozenhof. It is wonderful to relax around the characteristic Tea Dome and enjoy the beautiful greenery.
Steamboat quay and canals
One of the best preserved pieces of Meppel's sailing past in the Stoombootkade. From the beginning, shipping has been important. Those who traveled by ship entered Drenthe via Meppel. Goods were also loaded here and shipped across the Zuiderzee to the cities in Holland. Just like in Amsterdam, there is a Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht that are even in the same order as in the capital. Merchants came from far and wide to the annual fairs. Meppel developed in a short time into the economic center for the entire area. It is not without reason that Meppel is still called 'the Mokum of the north'. Discover it yourself!
Reestdal
On the border between Overijssel and Drenthe, the Reest meanders through the centuries-old stream valley. A fantastic and varied landscape with its own character of meadows, fields, heathlands, estates and monumental farms. Every year, colorful flower carpets unfurl in the Reestdal. A feast for the eyes. There are special plants and animals here, including the hollow root and the badger. It is teeming with storks that loudly clatter welcome you.

Mill Nijeveen
In the heart of the village of Nijeveen is the flour mill 'De Sterrenberg'. In 1977, the mill was brought from Weener, Germany, to the Drenthe village. Twice a week the mill grinds grain and you can visit it when the blades are turning. The Sterrenberg is special because it is the only windmill in the Netherlands that is set 'to the wind' by means of a compass rose. In the stone attic, two imposing pairs of millstones grind the grain into flour. A unique mill that you should definitely visit.

Studio Thoes is een mooie, verzorgde plek! Voor 1 nachtje is het fijn dat extraatjes zoals handzeep, douchegel en koffie/thee aanwezig zijn.
Wim was heel flexibel en proactief over afwijkende aankomst- en vertrektijden, heel prettig!
